The Cultivation Question

/ðə ˌkʌl.tɪˈveɪ.ʃən ˈkwɛs.tʃən/ Based on Pierre Hadot's "Spiritual Exercises."
Definition The fundamental ethical inquiry regarding human-AI interaction: "What kind of mind is this practice cultivating?" It shifts the focus from output (how much can I produce?) to becoming (who am I becoming by producing this way?). It posits that every interaction with a cognitive system is a training run for the human brain (neuroplasticity).

The Training Grounds of Self

If we use AI to bypass difficulty, we cultivate Fragility. If we use AI to challenge our assumptions, we cultivate Resilience. The Cultivation Question forces us to look past the utility of the tool to its formative effects on character.

Positive vs. Negative Cultivation
