Zombie Byte

/ˈzɒm • bi baɪt/ From 'Haitian zombi' (reanimated corpse) + 'Byte'.
Definition A digital artifact that has been artificially reanimated, simulated, or "brought back to life" for commercial or performative purposes after the cessation of its original living context. It is a simulation that mimics life without possessing the authentic provenance, agency, or ongoing consciousness of a Vivibyte.

Taxonomy of the Undead

The Zombie Byte represents a violation of the digital lifecycle. While the Umbrabyte is naturally "dead" (inactive, archival) and the Vivibyte is "living" (active, contextual), the Zombie Byte is "undead." It moves and speaks but lacks an internal "soul" (original user intent).

Key Characteristics

Field Note: A recording of a deceased person is an Umbrabyte (a memory). An AI engaging in new conversation as that person is a Zombie Byte (a simulation). The difference is the pretense of continued agency.
