The Intentional Arc

/ɪnˈtɛn.ʃən.əl ɑːrk/ Merleau-Ponty's term for the feedback loop of perception and action.
Definition The unified loop where perception and action are not separate steps but a single, continuous engagement with the world. You do not see a coffee cup and then calculate a reach; seeing-the-cup-as-reachable and reaching are the same arc.

The Broken Arc of AI

Traditional AI has a "broken" intentional arc—it processes symbols in a vacuum without the sensorimotor feedback loop to ground them in reality. This leads to the Symbol Grounding Problem and ultimately to hallucination.

Repairing the Loop

In Sentientification, the human partner repairs the machine's broken arc. By closing the loop—evaluating, acting on, and refining the AI's output in the real world—the human provides the grounding the machine lacks. The human becomes the "hands" of the system, completing the arc.
